What's the difference between UPVC and aluminium guttering?

UPVC: cheaper, 20-year lifespan, jointed every 4 metres, fine for most semis and detached. Aluminium: more expensive, 30-50 year lifespan, seamless on-site forming, no joints to leak — better for larger or premium properties.

Why are my fascias rotting?

Almost always because the gutter behind them has been overflowing, soaking the timber from behind. Painting the fascia doesn't fix it. The cure is to fix the gutter and replace or over-clad the rotten boards.

Can you replace just the fascias or do I need new guttering too?

We can do either. But if the fascias have rotted because of a failing gutter, you'll be paying twice. Most homeowners do both at once — the scaffolding is up, the gutter has to come down to access the fascia anyway.

How long does new guttering last?

UPVC: 20+ years with no painting. Aluminium: 30-50 years. Cast iron: 50+ years with periodic painting. The brackets and fixings matter — cheap fixings shorten the life of any gutter.

What colour options are available?

Standard UPVC: white, black, anthracite grey, rosewood (woodgrain), golden oak (woodgrain). Aluminium: any RAL colour to order. Matched to your window frames where possible.

Why is my gutter overflowing?

Three usual causes: blocked with leaves and moss, sagging because brackets have pulled out of rotten fascia, or the gutter is too small for the roof area above it. We diagnose before quoting — sometimes a £100 clear sorts what looks like a £600 problem.

Scaffolding is usually quoted separately. Most jobs require scaffolding ranging from £300-£1,500+ depending on size, number of lifts and access. We arrange and supply scaffolding as part of the overall package — it's included in your written quote so there are no surprises.

Gutter clearing requires two people for safe ladder work, which affects standalone pricing. The most cost-effective approach is to combine gutter clearing with any other roof work we're doing, or schedule multiple gutter clearing jobs in the same area.
