Bognor and the surrounding coastal villages — Felpham, Aldwick, Pagham, Middleton-on-Sea — share Hayling's exposure to salt air and southerly storms. We see a lot of flat-roof bungalows here that need recovering in EPDM, and Edwardian seafront terraces with lead and chimney work overdue.

The seafront and near-seafront stock in PO21 is mostly Edwardian and inter-war, with a substantial number of bay-fronted detached houses where the bay roofs are the weak point. Original lead is often code 3 or thinner, originally laid 80+ years ago, and water finds its way down behind it. Dressing in new code 4/5 lead with proper soakers is the right answer; silicone is not.

Felpham, Aldwick and the streets behind the seafront have a wider mix — large 1930s semis, post-war detached, and modern infill. The bungalow stock toward Pagham and Middleton tends to have low-pitch roofs and mid-century felt flat roofs that have already been patched once or twice. EPDM re-cover with new edge trims and properly formed upstands is what we recommend on most of these; modern EPDM is a 25-30 year material and tolerates the salt environment far better than felt.

South Bersted and the inland part of Bognor are predominantly 1960s-80s estate housing where fascia, soffit and gutter work is the regular job — original timber rotting under repainted skins, gutters pulling away from soft fascia boards. Strip-and-replace in uPVC is typically a 2-3 day job per house.

Bognor is on the outer edge of where we run a regular weekly schedule — most weeks we are there for at least one job, and we will combine where it makes sense to keep travel costs sensible for clients. We do not carry out emergency single-tile callouts to PO21 or PO22; minimum quoted job size applies. For larger work — re-roofs, full flat-roof recovers, chimney rebuilds, full roofline replacement — we are happy to travel and quote.
