Roofers in Romsey

Postcodes covered: SO51 · 24 miles from our Portsmouth base

Romsey is on the western edge of where we work regularly. The market town and its surrounding villages — North Baddesley, Ampfield, Awbridge, Braishfield — have a mix of clay tile, natural slate and a fair amount of thatched property. We take on tile and slate work here; thatch we leave to specialists.

Romsey town centre and the conservation areas around the Abbey have a high proportion of Georgian and Victorian property where sympathetic materials matter. We carry hand-made clay tile and natural Welsh slate for matching jobs, and we use code 4/5 lead with proper soakers and step-flashings — not silicone bodge-jobs that fail in two winters. Lime mortars where the property period requires them.

The modern estates around Cupernham and the newer developments toward North Baddesley are standard suburban stock — concrete tile, uPVC roofline, the usual fascia/soffit/gutter strip-and-replace work that we do across the region. North Baddesley itself is a substantial village with predominantly 1960s-80s housing where we see a lot of re-roof work as the original roofs reach end of life.

The outlying villages — Ampfield, Awbridge, Braishfield — have a wider mix including period cottage, larger detached country houses, and the occasional barn conversion. We are happy to quote on any of these.

Romsey is the upper western limit of where we run regular weekly work. Quotes typically take 72 hours, partly due to travel and partly because period property requires careful survey. We do not run emergency single-tile callouts to SO51 — minimum job size applies — but we will travel for substantial repairs, re-roofs, chimney work and flat-roof recovers.

We do not work on thatched property. The immediately adjacent tile, slate and lead detail we are happy to quote; the thatch itself goes to a specialist.

Neighbourhoods we work regularly: Cupernham, North Baddesley, Ampfield, Awbridge, Braishfield.

Local landmarks: Romsey Abbey, Broadlands, the Town Centre, Romsey Mill.

Romsey FAQ

No — we do not work on thatch itself. We are happy to quote any tile, slate or lead detail immediately adjacent (such as a tiled extension on a thatched cottage), but the thatch itself needs a master thatcher.
